Discover your own secret paradise

Land’s End is one of those spectacular natural locations that will leave you torn - you’ll want to rave about it, but also to keep it as your own perfect secret. At the very tip of the Baja California Peninsula, this idyllic escape is the pièce de résistance of Cabo San Lucas. El Arco, the picturesque result of millennia of erosion, is an iconic, arch-shaped rock formation jutting out of the Sea of Cortez. Once a favoured hideout for sixteenth century pirates, it now protects the inner beaches from the erosive effects of the Pacific Ocean.

Catch some rays at the beach

Hail a water taxi from the marina to laze upon the pristine golden sands of Lover’s Beach (Playa del Amor), as well as the adjoining Divorce Beach (Playa Divorcio), named for its unforgiving currents. Look out for languid sea lions as you pass by the rocks and, if you’re lucky enough to catch a glass-bottomed boat, watch rays and parrotfish swimming beneath you.

Observe the local wildlife

For even more nature, visit Pelican Rock just around the corner. Head to the calm waters that surround it for flocks of fish-guzzling birdlife, plus fantastic snorkelling and scuba diving. From December to early April, these biologically rich seas also feature pods of grey, blue and humpback whales so book an intimate whale-watching tour to observe these majestic creatures in the wild.

Water sports and cocktails

Sport fishing is another prevalent pastime in Cabo, with marlin being a highly sought-after catch. Hollywood legends such as John Wayne and Bing Crosby used to fish here, so why not follow in their footsteps and charter a boat to take you where the shoals are biting? The young at heart can enjoy a livelier vibe at Medano Beach. Soak up the sun and swim in its crystalline waters, or try your hand at kayaking, paddleboarding or parasailing. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to hand for cocktails, snacks and the ubiquitous tequila, or head away from the waterfront to continue the party atmosphere at neon haunts such as Cabo Wabo Cantina and Monkey Business.

Explore a quieter, wider side

f there’s time to explore further afield, make your way to the sleepier village of San Jose del Cabo, pausing at Chileno Beach, then continuing on to Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. Go north along the Pacific coast for that ‘Hotel California’ at Todos Santos, or to trek across the Baja Desert on a camel.
