MS Midnatsol joins Hurtigruten's Signature Voyages for 2026

Hurtigruten reveals its exciting plans for MS Midnatsol

Published on 18 Jun 2025

Hurtigruten has recently unveiled exciting plans for MS Midnatsol, one of its most beloved ships. Here, we explore what’s in store for this classic vessel, reflect on her rich history, and highlight some of the key reasons why a voyage with Hurtigruten—and MS Midnatsol in particular—might just be your next great adventure.

History of MS Midnatsol

Formerly MS MaudMS Midnatsol is a cherished member of the Hurtigruten fleet, having been part of it since 2001. She’s named after the incredible natural phenomenon where the sun doesn’t set during the summer months, keeping the sky golden throughout the night. MS Midnatsol has long been renowned for providing a home-from-home experience for guests exploring breathtaking ports in Norway. She was even the focus of an award-winning, year-long filming project, which focused on the ship’s operations. Once part of HX’s expedition fleet, MS Midnatsol has now returned to Hurtigruten’s iconic Coastal Voyages, once again sailing the Norwegian coastline she knows so well.

Exciting changes ahead for MS Midnatsol

Hurtigruten has recently announced that MS Midnatsol will join the fleet offering Signature Voyages, alongside her sister ship MS Trollfjord. Following a comprehensive upgrade, she’ll begin sailing the iconic Svalbard Line from summer 2026.

What is a Signature Voyage?

Hurtigruten’s all-inclusive Signature Voyages offer an elevated, front-row experience of Norway’s most breathtaking highlights. Guests can look forward to premium all-inclusive dining and drinks, featuring a generous selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Enjoy longer daytime stops in up to 14 ports, giving you more time to explore and try unique shore excursions tailored to your interests. Savour the best of Hurtigruten’s award-winning, locally sourced Norway’s Coastal Kitchen cuisine across three outstanding restaurants. On board, a larger Expedition Team delivers an enriched programme of activities and an in-depth lecture series, offering more profound insight into the landscapes, wildlife, and culture of the Norwegian coast.

The Svalbard Line

The Svalbard Line provides guests with the opportunity to sail along Norway’s coast, across the sea, to the remote Arctic archipelago of Svalbard and the last town before the North Pole. With 16 breathtaking destinations along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to visit remote and extra special spots. Ever dreamed of witnessing the natural phenomenon that is the Midnight Sun? In Svalbard, the sun lights up the sky all day and night from late April to late August. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy incredible shore excursions, from kayaking and paddleboarding to hikes and exploring picturesque villages. The wildlife spotting opportunities make this voyage even more exceptional, with the chance to see walruses, sea eagles, whales, seals, and even polar bears.

The Hurtigruten Difference: Why sail with Hurtigruten?

Hurtigruten prides itself on giving guests the opportunity to ‘travel with meaning’. With over 130 years of experience, they know the Norwegian coast better than most. Every voyage is designed to be authentic, unfiltered, and deeply relaxing. Their fjord-to-fork approach to dining means you’ll enjoy fresh, locally sourced, and flavourful dishes that truly reflect the regions you explore. The experienced team onboard enhance every voyage as they share personal stories, fascinating insights, and reveal facts about Norway’s culture, nature, and history. When you’re not out on one of the incredible shore excursions or listening to an engaging lecture, you’ll have the opportunity to unwind, make new connections, or admire the stunning scenery you sail past.
